Salutations ya queers! I see you’re back for another LGBTea, our weekly news and pop culture roundup. Here we go:

1. Celebrities around the world are reacting to the Coronavirus crisis in their own unique ways. The vast majority of them are sending out of touch updates about how sad their ultra-cushy quarantine mansions are, but queer idol Lady Gaga has our back! Lady Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta did what others could not, and organized a huge fundraiser and virtual tour set to premiere on April 18th. She raised 35 million dollars for the World Health Organization and even got a ton of other artists to join!

2. Lesbian historical icon Phyllis Lyon passed away last week at the age of 95. During her life, she was a trailblazer for lesbian equality. She wrote newsletters, books, and organized many protests and community events. She married her partner Del Martin in 2008, becoming the first gay couple to receive a marriage license in the United States. Remember Prop 8? That was her! Rest in power to an amazing woman, may we all do our best to emulate her.

3. Everyone’s favorite goth-gay uncle Ryan Murphy is coming out with a new show on Netflix called Hollywood. Indiewire gives us a full synopsis of what to expect from the show: Hollywood follows a group of aspiring actors and filmmakers in post-World War II Hollywood as they try to make it in Tinseltown—no matter the cost. Each character offers a unique glimpse behind the gilded curtain of Hollywood’s Golden Age, spotlighting the unfair systems and biases across race, gender and sexuality that continue to this day. Hollywood premieres on Netflix on May 1, 2020!

4. Modern Family is coming to a close after 11 seasons. Honestly I’ve never seen it, but I know that it pushed the envelope for gay representation in a primetime slot on a major cable network. Adieu, Modern Family!

5. Remember a couple of weeks ago when everyone re-discovered Rebecca Black? Yes, the Friday girl! Well she just confirmed last week that she’s queer! “Some days I do feel a little more on the gay side.” Me too, Rebecca. Me too.

6. Senator Bernie Sanders formally ended his campaign last week. Mr. Sanders made LGBTQ inclusivity a focal point of his platform and helped push more progressive policies into the democratic primary. Thank you Senator Sanders!

7. Schitt’s Creek ended with the much anticipated wedding between David and Patrick—and we have ALL the feelings about it! Dan Levy showed himself to be a true visionary, threading the needle between sass and love, and making it queer as fuck the whole way through. The cast read a beautiful letter from moms of LGBTQ kids and we all shed many tears. Can we get a spinoff series starring every article of Moira Rose’s wardrobe?

8. Ru Paul’s Drag race has had some standout guests during its twelfth season on air, but absolutely no one stands out more than the house representative for New York’s 14th congressional district, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Pretty sure this goes without saying, but AOC is the first member of congress to judge a drag race on national TV and she served up some fabulous looks in the process! You go, AOC!
